Thank you to Alexandria and Avery for donating author books to the library. All the students are enjoying Cursed by Bruce Coville. Thanks for thinking of us!
Kindergarten through second students will soon learn about the Monarch Challenge. This is a list of 20 books put together by Illinois librarians as some of the best picture books. We will read some of the books in the library and you are able to read them at home as well. After reading/listening to five books, students can vote on their favorite book. If they read all 20 books, they will be invited to a lunch-time party. Keep reading!
Last week, the students learned about the process of becoming President and how campaigns work. The students also got to participate in their own voting process. The library has a piece of furniture that, while useful, could use a little updating. Parent Christy Yungerman has graciously offered to refinish the piece of furniture. The students were able to have a say by voting on the book characters that will soon adorn the bookcase. I love that they were able to participate in a democratic process and will be able to see their votes counted as the characters liven up the bookcase. A huge thank you to Christy Yungerman for helping with this project. We can't wait to see the end result!
Third and fourth graders have accepted the Bluestem Challenge as they prepare for the Reading Olympics. Fifteen books are on the list and every student who wanted to participate received a flyer to take home to keep track of the books read. After reading six books, they will be able to vote for their favorite Bluestem book. After reading 10 books, they will get their picture taken on our Olympic podium. If they read all 15 books, they will vote, get their picture taken and be invited to a lunch party. Student have until March 1st to read the books. Keep on reading!
