Congratulations to those students who completed the Monarch Award Challenge by reading all 20 books. We celebrated with a party of pizza, popsicles and games. We were excited to hear the winner was: Gaston
Lincoln School is excited to announce we have acquired a reference website for all students to use in their research for this school year.
World Book Online has two databases (one for K-2nd Kids and one for 3rd-4th Students) that are timely and easy to use. The website has thousands of high-interest, readable articles packed with illustrations, videos, interactive maps, and timelines. Students are able to access the database from their iPads in school. World Book Online is also available for the students to use from home. The username / password for use at home is river11 / forest. The link can be found on the library website under Resources. We are bit overdue with our thanks. However, we owe a big debt of gratitude to Mrs. DuBois and Mrs. Powers for all their time and effort during the book fair. We also want to say thank you to all the many volunteers who made it happen. We truly appreciate all the work that went into having a successful book fair. Just look at how they transform the library into an amazing book store!
Thank you to Alexandria and Avery for donating author books to the library. All the students are enjoying Cursed by Bruce Coville. Thanks for thinking of us!
Kindergarten through second students will soon learn about the Monarch Challenge. This is a list of 20 books put together by Illinois librarians as some of the best picture books. We will read some of the books in the library and you are able to read them at home as well. After reading/listening to five books, students can vote on their favorite book. If they read all 20 books, they will be invited to a lunch-time party. Keep reading!
Last week, the students learned about the process of becoming President and how campaigns work. The students also got to participate in their own voting process. The library has a piece of furniture that, while useful, could use a little updating. Parent Christy Yungerman has graciously offered to refinish the piece of furniture. The students were able to have a say by voting on the book characters that will soon adorn the bookcase. I love that they were able to participate in a democratic process and will be able to see their votes counted as the characters liven up the bookcase. A huge thank you to Christy Yungerman for helping with this project. We can't wait to see the end result!
Third and fourth graders have accepted the Bluestem Challenge as they prepare for the Reading Olympics. Fifteen books are on the list and every student who wanted to participate received a flyer to take home to keep track of the books read. After reading six books, they will be able to vote for their favorite Bluestem book. After reading 10 books, they will get their picture taken on our Olympic podium. If they read all 15 books, they will vote, get their picture taken and be invited to a lunch party. Student have until March 1st to read the books. Keep on reading!
Bruce Coville met with third and fourth graders for an fin, engaging talk. He shared his new book, "Hatched". He gave writing tips (be like a kindergartener and always ask why) and he answered questions from students. Both students and teachers enjoyed his presentation. Our fourth graders are excited about seeing Bruce Coville tomorrow. A few students gave up their recess to help welcome him. They created welcome signs and made a bulletin board. The aliens for the bulletin board were drawn by both third and fourth graders.
Bruce Coville is coming to Lincoln! He will be visiting with third and fourth graders on Wednesday, October 19th. Mr. Coville will be talking about his writing and sharing his latest series with us. All Lincoln students are able to purchase autographed and personalized books from Mr. Coville. The order form is attached and is due on Monday, October 17th. We're excited to meet him!
